European Philanthropic support to address HIV/AIDS in 2009
This year?s European HIV/AIDS Funders Group?s resource tracking report provides vital fact-based financial information on European philanthropic investments in HIV/AIDS. In this period of economic austerity and with changes in the global funding environment, the availability of up-to-date information about funding commitments, gaps in giving, and trends in philanthropy remains key to sustaining and increasing global efforts towards eradicating HIV/AIDS.
U.S. Philanthropic support to address HIV/AIDS in 2009
After years of increases, funding for HIV/AIDS from U.S.-based philanthropies was 5% lower in 2009 compared to 2008, with disbursements falling from $618 million to $585 million (a decrease of $33 million). This is the first year since FCAA began tracking disbursements (in 2005) that funding decreased. Commitments (funding budgeted to be spent in a given year but not necessarily disbursed in that year) also decreased, dropping by 12% between 2008 and 2009.

It aims to investigate the linkages between investments in the AIDS response (MDG 6) and progress towards other MDGs, and vice-versa. It has been agreed that the study will focus on MDG 4 (child mortality) and MDG 5 (maternal health) but will also address violence against women under MDG 3 and touch on linkages to MDG 1 and health systems strengthening (HSS).
AIDS plus MDGs: synergies that serve people

The MDGs were endorsed by the global community at the turn of the century. Since then, substantial gains have been made towards many of them.2 Progress has been uneven, however, with major achievements in some countries and regions offset by inadequate progress elsewhere, and with significant inequalities within ...
